The World Architecture Festival part 1

As a San Diego Interior Designer, I have read that the Europeans were very interested in recycling. The question is -was this fact or fiction .

One of the surprises was how the trash was separated. Here is the attached photo - as we know a picture is worth a 1,000 words. As you can see, there are 6 containers, metal, glass, waste, organics, paper, and plastics!

In addition, I now realize that Europeans take carbon footprint very seriously and as Americans and especially interior designers, interior decorators, interior design firms need to take the lessons from the Europeans.

As architects and designers it is our job to take into account the complete lifecycle of products that are we use in our design ands specify usage of materials. I would like to compliment the World Architecture Festival and for Barcelona Convention Center CCCB at Diagonal Mar for providing leadership to architects and interior designers at this festival.

Fashion forward in lighting

When I came across this Chandeliers from Avram Rusu's collections, I knew this was no ordinary fixture. As a San Diego Interior Designer, I am striving to find unique items to add to my interior design portfolio so that one day I will be able to show my client- "I have the perfect chandelier for your room!"

Have you started to notice a slight uptick in business??

I have started seeing the first signs of a recovery in interior design in San Diego. It's a slow process but I have been taking a poll and people are starting to go and interview interior designers and interior decorators! I hope that is happening for you and keep me posted!

Social Media and the Interior Designer

It's been a journey to learn all of this. I think it is really interesting and a way to showcase your talents that you didn't know you have. Not only do you use keywords but you can use facebook, and technorati to boost you rating. Some of the great keywords I have found include interiors, home decorators, etc. I would be curious as to what others have found. Please submit them!

A new type of door handle straight from KBIS

There are times when you come across a product that looks so good, it blows you away.  When I just saw a picture of Atlas Homewares' new line- it is the Canterbury Series - WoW!  It comes in red and black as a San Diego Interior Designer, I would love to have this in my next project!

You can visit www.atlashomewares.com and look for the series.  This product is so beautiful that I would love to have it in my own home if I could.  From an interior design firm perspective, the fact that it is unique adds to its design quality.  check it out...

The British Government has recognized interior design with stamps!

I saw these and I was so thrilled that British Government has issued them. As a San Diego Interior Designer who has spent a lot of time in London, it is great and I want to share them with you.

This is the link to the stamps: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/stamps/jump1?catId=90700753&mediaId=90500750

So, if you love them, you can order them. Some of the great design included is the Red Outdoor Telephone Booth, the Anglepoise Lamp by George Carwardise, and the Concorde!!

I love the simplicity of the Angelpoise Lamp, is it an example of great design that would look good in an interior, especially on this San Diego Interior Designer's Desk!

Design and this recession

I like this New York Times article about this because its interesting but what one forgets about interior design is that it takes time. In the depression, people didn't take take in to account what it costs to develop these items. So, in essence your value as an interior designer is nothing. You have bought all the materials, tried to craft something, making many models, tinkering and maybe a year (or maybe two), a your creation is final. Then you have to sell it. Does that mean you will re-coup your time and materials?

Nope!

i'm back and thinking

Well, I have had some time off to thing about interior design. Most of us are just surviving - this is the time to contact your congress person and tell them. We are the small business of America and its time to tell them that. They are giving money to everyone else. What not small business!!

We interior designers have to stick together just like the financial industry. We are made up of architects, contractors, home depot, lowes and all the suppliers!!!

This is recession will last for a while and we need to stick together!!!
